Kohta is pleased to feature a series of recent ceramic sculptures by Dorothee Sauter (Switzerland, 1956, lives in Basel) under the title ‘Walking the Unknown’.

Sauter’s expressive and ambiguously zoomorphic (or perhaps rather terramorphic) work keeps half a foot, as it were, in the field of applied arts with which ceramics are usually associated. This is mainly to do with their materiality and with some of the shapes they employ. The remaining one and a half feet, however, are planted in the soil of speculative fiction, inter-species theory or alternative healing practices. It is not for nothing that Donna Haraway and Ursula K. Le Guin are her go-to references when she wishes to contextualise her own work.
This is the second part of a project launched by the organisation PF25 Cultural Projects at its venue in Dornach outside Basel in the spring of 2026. The curator for both parts is Angelika Li, Founder and Director of PF25.

Sauters expressiva och mångtydigt djurliknande (eller kanske snarare jordliknande) verk står s.a.s. med en halv fot i det konstindustriella fält dit keramiken vanligtvis räknas. Detta har huvudsakligen att göra med deras materialitet och med några av de former de antar. Återstoden av fötterna står planterade i en mylla av spekulativ litteratur, artöverskridande teori och alternativmedicin. Det är därför knappast överraskande att hon återkommande refererar till Donna Haraway och Ursula K Le Guin när hon vil kontextualisera sin konst.
Detta är andra delen av ett projekt som inleddes av organisationen PF25 Cultural Projects på dess visningsplats i Dornach utanför Basel våren 2026. Kurator för båda dessa delar är PF25:s grundare och ledare Angelika Li.
